Pro-Am Competition
HEATED DIVISIONS
In a Heated or “Just Dance” division, several couples take the floor at the same time and dance to a randomly selected song in a specific genre of Dance. Since the competitors don’t know what song will be played, movements and turn patterns are improvised during the competition, like during a social dance. It’s a lot of fun, and requires less preparation than competing with a choreographed routine (since there are no steps to remember!). Most heated dance divisions last for about 1.5 minutes.
Heated or “Just Dance” Competitions generally have least three different levels: beginner, intermediate, and advanced. This means you are guaranteed to compete against dancers of similar experience and level. Bigger competitive events often break those levels into even more categories and will have separate rounds for novice, beginner, pre-intermediate, intermediate, pre-advanced, and advanced dancers, 40+ or 50+ category (sometimes called a Silver Division), and a Junior category for dancers younger than 18 years old.
We recommend you enter at least three to five just-dance divisions at a single competitive event because competing in several categories at a single event makes the investment you have made preparing for the event more worthwhile.
