This class is for new (and new-ish!) students to Siempre Sol who want to learn and master the fundamental body movements, footwork steps, arm styling, timing, and movement mechanics of the “New York Style” Salsa On2 Dance style.
This level is for beginners as well as experienced dancers who want to reach their next level. We will cover basic footwork steps, turns, body movements, musical patterns, dance techniques, and how to comfortably dance in heels/Latin dance shoes.
We highly recommend taking this cycle for at least six months to master your fundamentals and become confident in your dancing before moving on to our more advanced offerings. Even seasoned dancers with years of experience will find the technical aspects of this class challenging and helpful for their dance development.

Come for Class. Stay for the Community!
At the end of the class cycle, we head across the street from the studio to Tangaroa Fish Market for a special hang-out session! This is a great opportunity to get to know other students at Siempre Sol outside of class. You may even meet your next best friend or colleague!
Stay as little or as long as you like – we’ll be there until the restaurant closes at 9 pm. Many students also choose to head to 3rd Street Promenade or Tatel to social dance afterward as well.
Please know you do not need to order food or drinks to join us!

If you’re just starting out, you can wear street shoes like sneakers or flats. If you wear sneakers, try to choose a pair with minimal rubber on the bottom; Converse-style sneakers will be better than thick rubber-soled running shoes because the rubber limits your ability to use your feet and execute turns/pivoting. You can also wear dress shoes with ankle straps or low-heeled boots.
It can be helpful to purchase a sneaker specifically designed for dancers because the bottom of the shoe will better support you. Brielle wears Fuego sneakers and highly recommends the brand (https://fuegodance.com). Use code “Brielle” for 10% off. Generally, you will need to size up 1/2 to 1 size in both the spilt-sole or full-sole style.
